Top 10 Day Trips in Norfolk

Discover the best day trips for locals and tourists in East Anglia's popular county

The beautiful county of Norfolk, where we’re proud to offer new and used cars at our Kings Lynn and Thetford EMG branches, has long been a destination for a relaxing break.

Whether you’re already a proud Norfolk dweller, or you’re visiting the area, there’s plenty to discover about the county we’re proud to call home here in East Anglia - here are 10 of the top Norfolk day trips that you can put in your calendar this summer…

Bressingham Steam & Gardens

Located just to the west of Diss, you’ll find Bressingham, which fuses the beauty of the natural world with the engineering genius of steam power to make a day out that covers all bases. See the gardens and the surrounding woodland from the comfort of a steam railway carriage, and your trip up with ice cream from the museum cafe.

Norwich Cathedral Quarter

If beautiful cobbled streets steeped in history sounds like your bag, you’ll love the corner of Norwich that’s well known as the Cathedral Quarter, a Medieval village set within the city. Home to (you guessed it) Norwich Cathedral, there are a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy while soaking up the unique atmosphere.

Thursford

Another destination for steam fans, Thursford is a visitor attraction that appeals all year round. With the largest collection of traction engines in the world, there’s plenty to see - plus there’s a fairground and lots of events put on throughout the year, including, most famously, their Christmas spectacular.

Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery

Following the Norman Conquest of England, William the Conqueror ordered the construction of Norwich Castle - that you’re able to explore it today is pretty impressive given that it was built around the 11th Century!

The castle you can see today is now the site of Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, where you can not only learn more about the rich history of both the castle and the city, but you can also catch the temporary exhibitions that regularly pop up.

Sheringham Estate

For those looking to take a step away from the hustle and bustle of the county's towns and tourist attractions will find Sheringham Park just the ticket. As a landscaped park and woodland owned by National Trust, visitors can look forward to stunning coastal views, and perhaps a cream tea at the on-site cafe - it is a day trip after all!

Cromer Pier

As if the pier itself wasn’t enough reason to visit, how does a pier with a theatre on it sound? One of only 5 theatre piers in the UK, a turn around Cromer Pier is a fantastic way to view a very pretty part of the Norfolk coast, with plenty of photo opportunities for the snap-happy amongst you.

Holkham Hall estate

For fans of a swoon-worthy stately home, Holkham Hall estate should be on your Norfolk to-do list. Built in the Neo-Palladian style for the 1st Earl of Leicester, it’s certainly got some majesty, as well as fallow deer grazing in the acres of parkland, bike hire available to explore the surrounding countryside, and a beautiful walled garden to enjoy.

Blakeney Nature Reserve

If you’re looking to be wowed by nature, there’s no better place than Blakeney Nature Reserve, where you’ll find the largest grey seal colony - there are over 4,000 pups born each year! In addition to this, there are mudflats, salt marshes and sand dunes, all with a wealth of wildlife in residence - there are plenty of views to enjoy, and creatures to look out for.

Norfolk Broads

For those that visit the Norfolk Broads, it won’t be hard to understand why it was made an Area of Outstanding National Beauty. You could, arguably, make several day trips out of various areas of the Norfolk Broads, which consist of lakes, beaches and undulating countryside. We’d recommend a boat trip on some of the area's waterways as a starting point.

Eaton Park

If you’re looking to kick back and relax, Eaton Park is the perfect place; as a historic park with space to picnic, play sports, and let the kids run wild (within reason), it’s an ideal day trip destination. And it’s just outside Norwich!

At a loose end? Find your next new or used car in Norfolk at EMG

If you need a car in which to do these day trips, or you need to use a day off this summer to explore your next upgrade, we’d recommend a visit to EMG in East Anglia.

Our Norfolk branches are the home of Kia, but a little further afield in Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire you’ll find our MG, Nissan and Mazda dealerships. Plus, each dealership has a whole host of used cars from a range of manufacturers on their forecourts to choose from.
